I’m planning to migrate my existing Plex Media Server to a new Rockstor server. First thing to point out is that the Rockstor server doesn’t yet exist, this is still planning stage. I’d like to know if anyone has already done this to see if they have some hints or tips.
Ideally I would like to achieve the following:
Complete migration of existing server preserving users (I have Plex Home enabled) and their watchlists.
Ability to keep track with the latest Plex Pass version
Preferably independent IP address for the container.
Ability to use a SSD as the transcoding directory
I’m planning to install this on a HP Microserver Gen 8 which I’m upgrading to a Xeon processor so it should have enough horsepower to cope with transcoding. At this stage I’m 50/50 between using a Rockstor with a container and using a dedicated server accessing the media via a NFS share on Rockstor but I’d be interested to hear about other people’s experiences.
Well, I wish I had some tips for you but I am just starting the same journey. Currently working on the hardware build-out but have a base install of Rockstor. I will be hosting Plex on the same system. I too have Plex Pass and use the DVR version.
I hope to find a migration doc out there for Plex, but haven’t searched just yet. I expect the process to be mostly hardware agnostic, but maybe Linux-specific. I’ll certainly be watching this thread.
I guess a lot of it will apply but need customising for the job. Once I’ve got the new server in place with Rockstor installed I’ll start documenting in here. Anyone else doing the same thing please feel free to chime in. If a few of us work together we may end up with a half way decent howto doc for others to follow.
