Samba is 4.2.10 too and the network is static

Ok, I’ve open smb.conf with WinSCP and can see that changes are made. But the WebUI open the error box

What happens if you systemctl restart smb via shell??

Uhmmm…did you had some mods over smb.conf via winscp or any window editor / copy&paste from win to shell ?

I use putty to do changes or copy/paste operations. The shell in the webui does not accept my root password.

Ok, smb.conf is a good ASCII text file, so not related to that; perms seem right too

Big big test:
edit /etc/locale.conf and change to LANG=en_US.UTF-8
reboot
Check if samba & others run or not

Actually smb.conf file seems ok, all seem ok, maybe still related to locale?? let’s check it

If all fails with en_US too, finally that’s not Rockstor related

Ok, I do reinstall rockstore as en_US instead of de_DE.

OK, I’ve reinstalled rockstor in BIOS mode instead of UEFI and with en-US locale. All works fine. But the WebUI shell does not accept my root password.

Ok, that’s a good starting point

WebUI shell: carefully config it, default config doesn’t allow root login, you have to use your rockstor user & su. To enable root direct access you have to click on the wrench and change access type.

Locale: apply patch (do you remember?), apply the “workaround”, via shell change /etc/locale.conf to LANG=de_DE.UTF-8, reboot and check if samba is working ? (I hope/think it will and probably all of this related to that UEFI non legacy bios & net nic)

Good morning @Uwe_Ganswig,
I assume you had a new installation then moved to de_DE with that trick from my last post, so marking this SOLVED

With next Rockstor release patch and workaround will be on code, so user actions no more required.
Finally I can say this issue was uefi bios related and not on Rockstor side

My suggestion : once again, remember to move that r8169 to r8168 (or change nic, disabling the onboard!), believe me.
