40 GbE driver support?

Question to developers…does Rockstor distro currently allow for installation of 40GbE QSFP+ card drivers compatible with regular Centos 7 branch? (eg. Intel® Ethernet Converged Network Adapter XL710 10/40 GbE).

@agw3 Welcome to the Rockstor community.

Hardware support is mostly down to the kernel version but given we supplant the regular CentOS kernel directly after install the CentOS relevance there after ceases. We use the much newer mainline kernel prepared by the elrepo folks by way of their kernel-ml. Currently only a 4.12 (after updates are applied) variant thought we are due to update this shortly. So the question is more if the drivers are available for, or ideally in, mainline source. Or can be compiled against that. At a push you could install the latest elrepo mainline yourself, if you needed newer kernel again. Though you would receive a UI warning and may need to tweak an internal check we do until that version become standard for us. The prior links and the following forum post have links to a newer kernel package if that was required:

Hope that helps and hopefully there is non ‘distro specific’ support for these devices. Given it’s intel based I would image so as they are pretty good on the opensource side of things for their drivers. Let us know how your investigation goes as there are bound to be others similarly interested.

Cheers.
