A question regarding a scrub

Hey everyone, I am currently running the latest version of Rockstor. I started having some issues a couple weeks ago, watching videos would just stop and crash so I was told to do a scrub. I started it July 2nd and is still going and every day seems to add a couple days to the completion. There are a lot of errors only on 1 drive and I believe one might be starting to fail so am going to replace the 2 drives. My thought is to remove 1 drive, balance, replace drive, balance, remove 2nd drive and do the same. My config is 4 8tb WD Red Plus drives on a Raid 10 Btfs. I hope this is the best way to do it. As far as the scrub that is still chugging along with no seemingly end can I end or cancel the scrub or do I have to complete? Thank in advance for any thoughts

@deigo if you have the additional slot you could also consider the “replace” option for each drive, rather than remove-balance-add, etc. Make sure that either of your drives are not close to full. I

Ideally, you will let the scrub finish. If you feel you can’t, make sure you have backups of your data (which you should have anyway  ) and then you can attempt to stop the scrub on the command line.

btrfs scrub cancel /mnt2/<pool-name>

If you get rid of the “most” failing disk first, then I would run a scrub after replacing the first one before you tackle the second one.

Thanks for getting back and the advice. I am going to let it run till early next week as waiting for replacement drives and busy weekend. At that time I will see if I have extra slot as well

So I hooked up my Server to a monitor and keyboard to try to stop the scrub. Soon as it boots goes to usernane Password but before I can type anything it starts scrolling down trying to fix errors and issues never stops long enuf to type anything. At a loss of what to do

Can you use Ctl+Alt+F2 to get a log in prompt?
Or ssh in as root user.
