Is it possible to update the Bitcoin Rock-On manually to Bitcoin Core version v0.19.0.1?

Hi @anborn,
Unfortunately I’m not familiar with bitcoin
(the package) so I’m unsure how to update it manually. Others here may be more knowledgeable than I am.
I can see from the docker image, however, that it is based on Ubuntu xenial (16.04 LTS), and looking at the ppa hosting bitcoind
, it seems to not be maintained anymore in favor of the snap package version:
NOT MAINTAINED (for new versions of Ubuntu), PLEASE USE THE SNAP INSTEAD (see https://github.com/bitcoin-core/packaging/tree/master/snap)
https://launchpad.net/~bitcoin/+archive/ubuntu/bitcoin
One may think you may be able to install the snap from inside the bitcoind rock-on and use that instead but as I’m unfamiliar with it, I don’t know whether that is actually doable.
Hopefully other users familiar with bitcoind will be able to provide more feedback, but in the meantime, I hope this helps,
Hi Flox,
Thank you for your answer. As far as I can see there are only 2 executables (bitcoind & bitcoin-cli) that are required for operating a full node. Also libbitcoinconsensus.so is used, but nothing else.
everythin elese is on the share.
At the moment I installed latest bitcoind on my OS user (without docker) and it’s working fine.
The only advantage to run it as a rockon I see is, that bitcoind will be automatically shut down on a System reboot (by “bitcoin-cli stop”), so that there will be no impcat to the blockchain database by killing the process hard during shutdown. In addition it is more comfortable to stop and start bitcoin deamon on the Rock-On UI, than using comandline in a terminal
But at the end, it is only “nice to have”
