Email notification of S.M.A.R.T. Status

Hey all,

I have a Disk with errors and going to replace it today. While this happened I noticed that the email notification gets only sent if you hit the refresh button on the corresponding page.
This is a little pointless, don’t you think?

So I assume this should be cronjobed or something?

Any hints how I could activate this?

Greetings,
Elmcrest

@elmcrest Yes definitely an area due for improvement and there are plans via “Disk monitoring UI 2.0” to improve things.

It is possible to configure automated smartmontools checks via GUI:

System - Services - spanner next to S.M.A.R.T…
Or via:
Storage - Disks - S.M.A.R.T

Both lead to the same place and it’s a pretty unrefined entry point I’m afraid but it does work to setup schedules of disk scans and one can configure an email to root which via email notifications should be forwarded.

Syntax for config lines are a bit tricky but doable.
There is some info on constructing a config line and an example over at “Features I would like in RockStor” In that example a short test is run daily and an long one on sunday.

Hope that helps for the time being.
