I needed to rename the appliance name. I did it through hostnamectl. The name changed, but I noticed that throught rockstor it is still the old host name (appliance name, Samba netbios name etc.).
What is the proper way to change appliance name?

You are right, currently Rockstor does not detect hostname changes made on the CLI using hotnamectl or any other mechanism. I’ve created an issue to support this which should be pretty easy to add. I’ll see if I can add this in the upcoming update as its both easy to add and sounds like an important feature to me.
