New Install issue Dell R630

My luck with Nas software is not the best Thought I would try rockstor since it has been around

awhile but it wont run.

Gives cant start rockstor build-service at end and also Error installing poetry from spec poetry 1.7.1

This is not complete listing of errors as to hard to get listing to this computer.

tried both Rocktors iso and they had same issue

No errors on network manager

Any suggestions welcome

@axios Welcome to the forum.

Our installer does require an internet connection on first boot, and on each update there-after. That could produce the issues your have reported here. The reason is that we build from source, using Poetry and PyPi’s resources. See the following installer guide:

Specifically this section:

Wait for the “Rockstor bootstrapping tasks”

The Rockstor bootstrapping task may take around 3-4 minutes to appear, depending on computer, drive, and internet speed. This same delay occurs during every rockstor package update, as rockstor-build.service downloads and builds from PyPi.

Hope that helps.

I had to leave for awhile got to thinking about internet while i was away will give it a try.

Thanks for the reply

Found this whats happening did not understand what was going on

I was installing Rockstor on my server, but I forgot to plug the ethernet cable in.

So the Rockstor Installer could not get an internet connection and these error messages appeared.
Afterwards I plugged in the ethernet cable, ran the installer again and then everything did work.

Cheers

@axios Could you respond here with your progress on this install proglem - strongly suspected to be no internet connection. As indicated also by @simon-77 whose post you have quoted already? I.e. they had no internet connection for the install to complete.

I see that you have started another thread:

It would be good to know if they are related.

I.e. please confirm here if you found your issue to be no-internet.

Just trying to clarify where we are at with your progress. And separate potential causes.

Sorry if I was unclear

Yes everything works fine from a drive bay on the front plugged in the net and everything went fine and works.

What I got now if install to a usb thumb or Usb external hdd (Usb 3.0) it will not boot and go to the emergency mode (net plugged in)

Giving this error /dev/disk/by-label/root does not exist at end of booting.

All the other nas software i tried would boot from the usb.

And again thanks for your time.

I setting got messed up in bios that caused everything not to boot before.
