Off topic: storage in cloud clusters

I found this read interesting on state storage in cloud servers, arguing that storage should be inside the very compute cloud it serves (and less like ‘external filesystems’).

Its a bit of a marketing piece for min.io but the discussion about ‘do we even need filesystems’ made me go hmmmm…

Got me pondering the future of storage and what future nas products would look like. Like a pile of rockstore boxes all merging into a single storage cloud and compute cloud. <3

Polar opposite to the Plan 9 operating system which took the network and all other sorts of things and made it into a file system. Want to open a network site? dns loop up then access /net/ip.ip.ip.ip.port and use it like a file. :wink:

ceph does object stores too. Plus its a filesystem too.
