Request: rsync service

I’m not an expert at rsync but I set up my Rockstor with NFS and am trying to do some backups with rsync. I’m learning that this is a horrible idea.

My search indicates that rsync doesn’t play well with NFS and it tends to want to copy everything instead of an incremental backup. Apparently they recommend just doing an rsync direct transfer, so that got me thinking about running rsync on my rockstor.

I think I’m confusing myself. I see there’s ways to run rsync as a service, and also transfer over ssh… I’ll do more experimenting. Disregard this :smiley:

No worries, rsync works over ssh. We could perhaps improve upon it a bit, so feel free to share your wishes and recommendations as you experiment.
