next step, from shell run cat /etc/nsswitch.conf | grep hosts and please post here your output

Can you ping ntp servers? no -> dns missing?
yes -> we have to check from shell
ntpdate 1.de.pool.ntp.org
ntpdate -d 1.de.pool.ntp.org
ntpdate -u 1.de.pool.ntp.org

M.

After that i tried to add the NTP sever to the web-if again and it worked! maybe there is a problenm with the ntpd, not beeing stoped correctly. i couldnt stop it with systemctl thats why i killed it.

now its status is:

[root@rockstor ~]# systemctl status ntpd

hi!

Since im having some other problems to i played around with the system.
disabled ntp rebooted, tried to restart ntp -> same error.
now it tried to ping the ntp servers and an “memory access error” occurs (“speicherzugriffsfehler” in german)

[root@rockstor ~]# route
Kernel IP Routentabelle
Ziel Router Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
Speicherzugriffsfehler
[root@rockstor ~]# ping 1.pool.ntp.org
Speicherzugriffsfehler

so i guess there is another problem beeing involved.
this is a freshly installed VM with a 3.8-15 cd from sf and online updated to 3.8.16-6

did also an fresh install with the same error.
now it try to reinstall with the lastest 3.8-16-1 to see if anything changes.

Hi @g6094199,
Speicherzugriffsfehler is Segmentation fault, what I suspected on my previuous message asking if you can ping

This is a CentOS related issue currently with tracking over CentOS and Samba too

Solution:
on that forum link there’s a message with a trick to have ping and ntp running

Please note till Samba update from CentOS won’t be available, on every reboot you’ll have to manually start ntp service

Waiting your updates/checks
M.

THX Mirko!

i did the easy fix and reinstalled with 3.8-15 and will do no updated till its fixed

Well @g6094199, you’d better stay on 3.8-16 (except on reboots you won’t suffer that CentOS bug on others)

M.

To all please update with yum update, major updates fixing samba segmentation fault over name resolution

M.

sorry no.

only therse updates are pushed and they dont fix the problem:

(1/3): bind-libs-lite-9.9.4-38.el7_3_9.9.4-38.el7_3.1.x86_64.drpm | 149 kB 00:00:00
(2/3): bind-license-9.9.4-38.el7_3.1.noarch.rpm | 83 kB 00:00:00
(3/3): rockstor-3.8.16-8.x86_64.rpm

will try again tomorrow…

Hi @g6094199,
Rockstor yum running with fastestmirror plugin so maybe your current mirror till without new packages (guessing)

M.

Edit: try with yum clean all && yum update

yep that fixed it.
i’m more of a debian guy so i wonder why yum doesnt pull the repo info without cleaning the cached data…

anyway

thx!

Hi @g6094199,
I’m a Debian guy too and I’m pretty sure yum has a kind of caching over repositories metadata (probably expiring every day?!?)
