Virtualize my existing Rockstor setup

I’m thinking about virtualizing my Rockstor install. I think the steps I want to try are:

  1. take a config back up from within Rockstor.
  2. Power down and unplug all BTRFS drives
  3. Install ESXI
  4. Setup a new VM, install a clean copy of Rockstor

This is where I’m now unsure of the order…

  1. reconnnect the data drives
  2. import the pools
  3. restore my config file
  4. smile because I’m all done???

Does that sound about like it might work? Does the config I’ve restored contain what’s needed for my rockons? Or is it best to just reinstall the rockons pointing to my restored shares?

I haven’t tried that for now.
But I would try that with an test instance.

Keep this post updated!

Ya, I am new to ESXI, so probably will be a bumpy ride

I am going to try and install ESXI on another machine, and give it a whirl over there and see how it goes. I’ll report back once I get it done (might not be until next weekend).
