Dedicated Raid card or just used a bunch of disks

I have a question, for Rocstor is it better to have rockstor manage raid arrays or use a dedicated raid card, currently I use Lsi 9260 4i and a Lsi 9270 8i , but cant effectively manage the raid cards without rebooting to win10 and using the Megaraid software. I use 3 logical drives for a pool that works good so far, but could I get a card that just presents the disks without management and have rockstor manage the raid volumes?

Personally I use software raid because it can’t get defective

But from the documentation:

Hardware raid, or md/dm software raid, underneath btrfs, Rockstor’s chosen filesystem, will weaken data integrity assurances. Multi-layered raid/drive-management arrangements, including any LVM, are not supported. Raid controllers, if used, should thus be configured to HBA / JBOD operation.

Also:

Note about hardware raid: Rockstor provides BTRFS based software RAID capabilities. However, advanced servers offer hardware RAID functionality providing additional redundancy. Evaluate your risks and choose appropriately.

And something about S.M.A.R.T: S.M.A.R.T — Rockstor documentation

Thanks for the reply! I think I will go with JOBD, and leaving out the LSI cards,

I have used the LSI 9300-16i and LSI 9211-8i (both in IT mode) for years with no problems.
