I’m an existing Rockstor user, but my “subscription” expired on Oct 1. Last night I did a reinstall of Rockstor (due to a failed OS disk) and did my contribution via the open collective page. I’ve tried to paste in the new Appliance ID in the Appliance ID manager, but I have not received any email back about a new activation key. I’m sure this is something silly that i’ve forgotten. Any help would be appreciated.
@gsamu, hello again.
Thank you for contributing to Rockstor. Due to some changes on the Open Collective side, the Rockstor [phillxnet edit: Stable updates registration] has been changed as well. You can find details here:
As from Rockstor version 5.5.1-* testing, and 5.6.0-0 stable, activating Stable Channel updates no longer requires a subscription to our non-profit Open Collective. Do keep in mind that we are still trying for sustainability. So do consider donating as every little helps. And little and often is good.
All the funds/donations received currently go to sustain the hosting (this forum, the website, etc.) and development cost, which is currently carried by @phillxnet for the most part. So, anything that people donate (instead of the subscription model) will continue to help offset the cost to keep the lights on and take burden off the development team.
@gsamu First off, appologies for this failure. As @Hooverdan has detailed already - we have a changing stance on this requirement. However by way of maintaining Appman for a while longer as we transition to our next Stable release I’ve just looked our/my failure there.
Re:
As you indicated all your existing orders had expired. But the reason for there being no new order in Appman, into which you could enter an Activation code, has been tracked down to Open Collectives changing the credentials scope required by Appman - without notifying us! Your report helped me track this down. My apologies for me missing that change - they did not inform us as we are likely one of only a few, and likely one of the first originally interacting with their fancy OpenQL API.
You should now see this new Order represented in Appman under your existing account there. Again my apologies for missing this upstream change in behaviour regarding how Appman must interact with Open Collectives systems.
You may find you have to edit one of your older ‘Computer’ entries in Appman if it already now contains the latest Appliance ID. Just add letter-numbers to that entries ‘Appliance ID’ to avoid duplicate errors, and put in a-fresh on the new Order associated ‘Computer’ entry and it should send you an Activation code as was the prior requirement.
